Digicelcricket.com caught up with Chris Gayle right after coming back from Guyana’s Jamzone Masters Cup T20 tournament. As usual, Chris, with his fun-loving larger than life personality was happy to sit with us and answer all your questions.
Q. Chris are you keeping the cricket tourney again this year?
A. Not sure, nothing is confirmed as yet
Q. Would you leave the West Indies team and play for another country if they don’t want to put you back on the team?
A. Cricket is what I play, and If I am not back on the team I would have to find alternative ways of being able to play cricket
Q. When do you think you will break Lara's record?
A. I will definitely give it try the next time I am able to play
Q. When will you be back on the pitch playing for the west indies
A. I am not quite sure. But I won’t know until all the issues are resolved
Q. Do you take West Indies seriously or do you just play for them so that you will be able to play for other leagues to make a lot of money?
A. I have been playing cricket for the West Indies team for over 9 years. So that should say a lot about how serious I take cricket and the West Indies team
Q. What goes through your mind when you hit a 6 and the ball lands in another country?
A. [chuckles]It’s a good feeling when the ball goes across the boundary and not in anyone’s hands
Q. Gayle do you think West Indies will be on top again and what is needed to make it better?
A. I would love for us to be on top again, but for what is needed, that would have to be up to the governing body to determine
Q. Do you think the West Indies would ever win another international match without you?
A. Of course! Definitely they will win international matches without me
Q. Would you captain the West Indies team again if given the opportunity?
A. Yes I would, It is an honour to lead the West Indies team
Q. Would you play alongside Darren Sammy?
A. Of course, why not? I have done it before so why wouldn’t I do it again
Q. What is your favorite club to play for?
A. Royal Challengers Bangalore
Q. How would the relationship with the coach affect your return to WI cricket?
A. I don’t see a problem, we are both professionals and the most important thing is to get the cricket going
Q. How would you describe your hunger Windies cricket?
A. I am always ready whenever I am called upon, and I will give my 100% when representing the West Indies, and if called upon again I will be ready
