Digicelcricket.com caught up with Darren Sammy ahead of their 1st T20 match up against Bangladesh. Darren was happy to sit with us and answer all your questions.
Question: How do you feel about the teams’ chances against Bangladesh?
Answer: Although we lost the lone T20 I still believe that the team's chance of winning the ODI and Test Series is very good.
Question: What’s the mood like in the camp?
Answer: There's still a confident mood in the camp even though we lost the T20
Question: Are the boys sufficiently prepared?
Answer: We have prepared very well for this trip. We had 10-day camp in Barbados followed by 1-week in Dubai where the conditions there was hotter than what we're facing in Bangladesh, the wickets were also similar and the facilities at our disposal were world class...
Question: Do you see yourself more of a bowler more than a batsman?
Answer: My internationals stats will suggest I'm more of a bowler who bats, but I'd like to contribute in both departments for the team
Question: Do you like working with Otis Gibson?
Answer: I do enjoy working with Mr. Gibson. Since his come on board he's been trying in incorporate a very professional attitude which the team really needs
Question: What specifically have you learnt from Otis so far that has elevated you as a player?
Answer: SELF BELIEF... Otis has taught me to believe more in my ability
Question: Which youngster on the team you think is most promising?
Answer: We have quite a few promising youngsters in this setup….Bishoo is the current ICC emerging player, Darren Bravo is a class act, Kemar Roach is pacey, Barath score 100 on debut…...all these youngsters are the future of our cricket...
Question: How do you deal with the pressure, not just to perform, but also the “political” pressure coming from the fans across the region?
Answer: I'm a strong believer in God and I rely on him to pull me through when different pressures arise…..Also I've accepted that whatever I do there will be some people who will have their say…..and at present I’m in a very happy stage in my life so I won't let pressure or criticism steal my joy...
Question: What effect does the teams’ performance have on you being the captain?
Answer: As a captain you always want the team to well, so losing is disappointing, but is the manner in which we lose that tends to have an effect on a captain. But winning is always the sweetest feeling..
Question: Are you married? And how do you manage family life with such a hectic work schedule?
Answer: Yes I’m married to one of God's most beautiful creations...CATHY SAMMY…..I try to have my wife travel with me whenever possible, and when I’m home I do cherish and make the most of my time spent with my family...
