Our chat with Denesh Ramdin

DigicelCricket.com had a chance to chat with Denesh Ramdin while he has been with the West Indies Team in Bangladesh and India.  We found out about his most memorable cricket moment and more!

Q. Would you say that Darren Ganga is the best captain u have played under?  And do you think you are ready to take over the mantle for Trinidad & Tobago now that he has retired?

A. I have played cricket under some very good captains and Daren Ganga is one of them. I have played under Brian Lara, Chris Gayle, Ronnie Sarwan Darren Sammy and Dwayne Bravo and they all did a good job. Every captain is different and has his own style and way of doing things. Ganga has done a good job for Trinidad & Tobago. He always led from the front and gone out there and done the job. If I am chosen to replace him I would happily take the opportunity and look to win titles as well.

Q. How did you feel when you were called back to represent the West Indies?

A. I was really happy to get the opportunity to play for the West Indies again. I have been working very hard on my game and once I get the chance to play again I will give my all for West Indies.

Q. What is your most memorable cricket moment? Do you have one for keeping and one for batting?

A. My most memorable moment keeping wicket was taking five catches in an innings in Australia during the last tour out (1st Test match at the Gabba in 2009). My most memorable batting was scoring 60-odd (60 in 2007; 61 in 2009) at Lord's against England. I really wanted to get a hundred on both occasions to get my name on the wall but I didn't.

Q.Which cricketer (past or present) do you admire most and why?

A.There are few players I admire. I had the opportunity to play with Brian Lara and Ronnie Sarwan and they are two players I admire a lot. Playing against the likes of Dravid, Tendulkar, Kallis and Ponting I try to pick up things from their game and try to see if I could benefit my game.

Q.How did you become a wicketkeeper?  Was it always your position?

A.No I wasn't always a wicket-keeper. Growing up in school we did not have anyone to keep wicket so I decided to take it up. I continued to build on it and learned a lot as I went along in my cricket career.

Q.Is it harder to keep wicket for a Fast Bowler or a spinner and why?

A.On the bouncier pitches it is always easier and more comfortable to keep to the pace. On slow low pitches I find it easier to keep to the spinners as there is always a chance of a stumping and things like that.

Q.What do you like to do in your spare time?

A.I love to relax and spend time with my family. Basically, on tour I relax in my room, spend time talking to my girlfriend and I might do a bit of shopping as well.

Q.  What is your favourite form of cricket?

A.  I just love playing cricket, doesn't matter what format of the game.

Q.  Is there a form of cricket you feel you are more suited to be playing?

A.  I believe I have the capability to play in all forms of the game. I always try to excel and what I always aim to do is be consistent and help the team to win.
