Sarwan Blogs About Being in the Digicel Home Series 2011
DigicelCricket caught up with Ramnaresh Sarwan before the West Indies head into the Final Digicel ODI against Pakistan tomorrow. The Right-Handed batsman has played 167 ODI matches for the West Indies and boasts an impressive average of 43.08. We are thrilled that he is back!
Hey West Indies fans, as you all know, I was selected for the 4th Digicel ODI in Barbados and I’m so glad I was able to be there for our win, and make my contribution. It’s good to be back and wearing the West Indies colours once again. It is even sweeter that the 5th one is in my homeland of Guyana! Being at home and for us to finish strong with a win would be great!
A lot of you have been wondering about my health and fitness I’m sure. Thanks for your support and concern. I’ve definitely been working on my fitness during this break. I’ve been in the gym and the pool, doing physical therapy, running laps, working on my endurance. I’m feeling really good, and prepared to play some more cricket.
It feels really good to be back with the team again. These guys are younger but getting a lot of experience on and off the field. I’ve seen some good cricket from them. My fellow Guyanese teammate Bishoo has made a great showing, and has proven himself well on the team. I’m sure he’s looking forward to playing for the West Indies for the first time here in Guyana. I know I always look forward to playing on my home ground. As one of the most experienced players on the team I really hope to set an example for some of the newer guys and provide my support.
I remember really well how it felt to be a new player on the team, it’s interesting that my cricket debut was actually against Pakistan in a Test match in May 2000. That was 11 years ago this month; I can’t believe how fast that time has gone. It will go that fast for these younger guys too and I hope I can share some of my lessons with them.
Make sure you support the matches if you’re in Guyana or St. Kitts, you don’t know how much having you in the stands cheering for us means! Thanks for supporting me over the years, I really do feel blessed!
Ronnie
